How often should I have my piano tuned and why?

Professional piano tuning by ear is not only good for the sound and therefore important for ear training when practicing, but above all for the longevity of your instrument. The enormously high tensile forces of the strings of up to 20 tons represent a permanently high load. In order to prevent the strings from breaking or the soundboard from being subjected to excessive stress, resulting in cracks, your piano prefers a constant, even tension. In addition, regular movement of the entire system during tuning prevents the formation of "predetermined breaking points" at the strings. Specifically, your instrument should be tuned at least once, ideally twice a year, regardless of use and season. Then the piano strings can easily reach an age of 100 years, which is unique in the world of instruments.

I tune upright and grand pianos entirely by ear and according to traditional piano building techniques.

I can also tune your harpsichord or historical instrument on request.

Please contact me for a tuning appointment or for further individual advice.
